Progressive Insurance - They will hook you in and then increase your quote by... - Image 2

Here to report (once again) the fraud operated by Progressive, which operates Price gouging , as they notice that people return to their original quote, few hours after the initial estimation.

I got a quote on June 30th for 294,50US$

For some personal reasons, I did not manage to pay on the same time (important element, as you will see in a bit)

Progressive sends me my quote and confirms my price

Today I click on the link they sent me andsurprise surprise!

The quote has been price gouged across all dimensions and it is 15% more expensive in just 4 days.

As I call the operator today, she said that:

1)It is normal for them to run checks after the midnight of the same day. Following that they can change the price (+15% increase in my case).

This is due to some sort of regulations

2)If I had paid at the same time, I was seeing the quote, the price would have not changed by a single penny (i.e.: that regulation check maybe applies or maybe not.

But the price would not change)

It is role of every citizen to report the greedy, immoral and unethical behaviour of those businesses. Insurances are the most hated companies across the United States and for a good reason.

This is a clear indication of one of the many reasons, for which people HATE THEM

Company has been reports to the BBB and the Texas department of insurance for illegal practice

Pros:
  • Make you believe they offer lower prices
Cons:
  • Price gouging arrogant and ignorant customer service

User's recommendation: do not fall into the trap of their initial quotation. They WILL INCREASE it by the time you pay

Progressive added fictional drivers to my policy

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have had several policies with Progressive (vehicles, trailers, ATVs) for well over 20 years and haven't had an issue with them until now. I always disclose the members of my household as required.

This year, Progressive decided they did not believe me. Progressive decided that several people lived in my 1-bdrm home with me and unilaterally added them as drivers on my policy. I have no idea who these people are or why they were associated with my address. In adding these strangers, Progressive divulged personal information about them to me as well, including their full names, dates of their last several claims, years of birth, driver's license states, last 4 of their licenses, number of years licensed, marital statuses.

These strangers have different last names from each other and from myself. They also have drivers licenses in three different states--none of which are my state. In doing a quick internet (public records) search by myself, I was able to find a true address for at least one of them. Progressive should be required to do more in-depth research and not put the onus on me to tell them someone does not live with me.

Progressive did not call to ask me about these strangers. Progressive's only call was to push for bill payment after they increased my premium--but since I knew I had paid my policy in full, I dismissed the call as a scam. Progressive should not rely on emails--these are often phishing tactics and dismissed as well.

To add insult to injury, when I called Progressive, I was met with pedantic script reiteration and zero attention to customer service--there was not a smile in that voice from the word "hello". I told them I did not know the added drivers and yet they repeatedly asked "How do you know ___?" So I will be moving all of my policies to another provider now and because both my husband and I were treated so poorly on the phone, we will share our experience with as many people as possible so they can avoid feeling bad too.

BUYER BEWARE! SHADY POLICIES.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

DONT BOTHER GETTING INSURANCE WITH MONEY SHARKS, PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE! All they care about is getting all your money in premiums with stupid company policies.

They have a policy if a household member is drivers age and doesnt have Progressive Insurance, they have to be added to your policy, and in turn, yep, increase your premium. Guess what, everybody doesnt have to have Progressive Insurance And by the way, that household member has his own car and his own car insurance. So you want to add a 36 old to a 19 year olds already expensive policy. I think not.

They dont care. Money sharks. And if you dont do it, you will be cancelled. Well you just cancel honey.

There are hundreds of other insurance companies in the world. And Ill just cancel our other 3 policies and our business policy. So now you lost 4 policies and not just one.

They have really pissed me off! And when Im pissed off I leave and I tell everybody!

Typical bait and switch

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

6 months ago I bought a policy for liability and Progressive which was like equaled the other lowest estimate I received so I went with it. However, my policy is up for renewal and of course they want to raise it $20 a month which may not seem like a lot but it was only 77 to begin with which includes a ridiculous $6 installment fee even though I have it on auto pay.

What I find insulting is how they list all these discounts and the loyalty discount and all these other supposed discounts at the same time they raise my rate $20 a month. What a load of crap. I'm not renewing for another 6 months because I have found the same coverage for less. Also, my driving record still spotless my credit rating is still good and nothing has changed in the past 6 months that would warrant an increase.

My prior insurance provider I had for 2 years and they never raised my rates once. I plan on going back there.

Denial of claim

Updated by user May 28, 2024

Nothing was resolved looking for a lawyer

Original review May 21, 2024

I was in a car accident with a Progressive customer in the Bronx, NY. The driver had no license and an expired registration.

NYPD does not respond to an accident unless someone is hurt, so I do not have an accident report.

I took pictures of my car and the scooter that hit me, which damaged my right rear door. Progressive stated that the insured never reported the accident and my pictures are not enough proof.

Erroneous Charge 12 DAYS TO REFUND!!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On 07/01/2024 early morning, I checked my Chase bank account and discovered that Progressive had charged my debit account $401.45 instead of the usual $137.66! That is a $363.79 increase!

I found that they had added my sister-in-law's 16-year-old grandson to my insurance policy because she allowed him to have his driver's to be mailed to our address! They had done the same thing to my wife but because she had her insurance (with another company through an agent the agent caught it before they billed her. I did not have that luxury because they added it to my policy on the renewal date and billed it to my bank account! The grandson is on my sister-in-law's policy but Progressive didn't care they issued an affidavit form for me to sign that he will never drive my truck which I signed and returned on 07/01.

I explained that they needed to refund the money to my bank so that my auto withdrawal bills would be paid07/06 because it would overdraw my account. Now I have been informed that the refund won't be completed until 07l12!

Thanks for the what not to do if you have any sense post. Only a FOOL would allow a teen to list their home as their address.

Insurance companies will see this and raise your rates. Tell your SIL to get her own address..

TERRIBLE claim processing

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Progressive Insurance - TERRIBLE claim processing
Contains 2 confidential files for company representatives

It was over a year ago that my toilet cracked and water went all over the upstairs and through to the lower level. Progressive sent two agencies and assured me everything would be covered with warranty for using their recommended agencies.

However, the contractor they sent completely gutted to the studs both bathrooms, instead of just fixing the pipe and replacing the toilet. We had to live in a hotel 4 months! The contractor kept not showing up and did more damage THEN said I needed to sign a contract to put it back together. Progressive assured me everything would be warrantied and to go ahead.

Progressive has not reimbursed for damage and loss and the agents and their supervisors seem to speak a script of false promises. The work was SHODDY and the response from Progressive LAZY AND DISMISSIVE.

They switched agents so they could say that he told me wrong and thus not fulfill promised outcomes. There is no oversight and no positive outcome for the homeowner.DO NOT USE

I made the mistake of switching to Progressive home insurance to save a few dollars this year. On the day after the policy became active, Progressive sent me a 60-day cancellation notice because of an overhanging tree limb.

The previous insurance company had no issue with the tree in question, and I informed Progressive that their rep's photo angle was deceiving. However, I decided to be safe and just remove all nearby tree limbs to eliminate even the possibility of a problem. Progressive also mentioned that there were no downspouts on the gutters and the roof was "5%" dirty with "debris", so I had a brand-new gutter system with downspouts installed and the roof cleaned. After all the work was completed, I took photos and emailed them to Progressive (they only take policy pictures themselves once).

It takes about 10 days for Progressive to respond to any document or photo uploaded. After 11 days, Progressive responded by email stating the pictures I sent were ""insufficient". That same day I took all new photos (following their instructions again) and precisely labeled each one covering the home and roofline perimeter from every possible direction. I followed that up with a voice phone call to let Progressive know the material has been uploaded and the 10-day wait begins again for another response.

At this point, after wasting almost $10K of my time and money trying to make Progressive underwriters happy, I don't care what Progressive does with this homeowner's policy. I have a comparable competitor's quote ready, and I've also filed formal complaints with government regulators regarding Progressive's possible fraud.

I believe that Progressive may be offering artificially low quotes just to pull customers away from competitors but have no intention of upholding their policy quote. Beware of Progressive - their quotes are meaningless in my opinion.
